Motorola Xoom 4G

Motorola will begin the upgrade of the existing owners of Xoom tablet 4G LTE in the next week, but the first pilot program should focus only on business and government customers, says enthusiastically Droid Life website.

According to an e-mail purportedly received from a Droid Life reader, Motorola's "pilots", the first upgrade just to businesses and government customers, before it starts deploying 4G massive Xoom to individual owners.

In late July, Verizon confirmed that Xoom 4G LTE upgrade would kick off sometime in September after several months of delay. Earlier this year, the upgrade to 4G is free, but the process requires

Xoom owners email back from their tablets to a hardware retrofit.Earlier instructions had directed users to email their tablets back to Verizon. But the e-mail posted by Droid Life is rather telling Xoom industry and government owners directly to their tablets for Motorola. But the process seems to be the Xoom same.Registering on Motorola's website to an e-mail from the company is activated when the upgrade is available. Verizon offers its own registration page, which Xoom owners can find it when the 4G upgrade is complete. Xoom owners are advised to back up their files and personal information and either encrypt their data or back to Xoom, in its original factory settings. People who have registered for the upgrade will have a box and shipping materials from Motorola, they can use the tablet to the ship.

Verizon had previously warned them that they would Xoom owners without their tablets for about six days. But the e-mail published by Droid Life is a promising turnaround of Motorola just three days, at least for business and government customers.

Spice MiTab: Price & Specs of Entry level Android Tablet

You have heard of the Reliance 3G Tab and Beetel’s Magiq, both budget competitors to the iPad, Xoom and Galaxy Tab. We now have yet another entrant: Spice’s MiTab.Spice Mobile, now known as S Mobility, have launched the MiTab, an entry level Android tablet. Here are the specs we could find so far

Being an Android tablet, it has an HTML Browser with Flash Support (ahem, iPad). It also has the WiFi Hotspot feature by which you can share your internet connection over WiFi with other devices.

Mr. BK Modi, chairman of S Mobility said, ”Mobile Internet is a revolution, a new trend which comes from the customers’ connectivity need to be always on. Tablets play an important part in this revolution. Tablets may very well be the 1st PC for most of the Indians. There has been a growing demand for ‘tabs’ which can do so much ranging from multimedia to social networking to even your official work.”

We find it a little hard to believe that the tablet has 2GB of RAM, as even high end tablets do not have that much, but those are the specs given on Spice’s official site. Apart from that, the specs are impressive. The addition of a GPU should make the User Experience a lot better. It also means one can watch HD Content on the Tablet. Coupled with a capacitive touch screen we are looking forward to seeing how this device will do in the market.

HTC 4G NEw Gen

This is a pretty good question most wireless carriers probably asked themselves recently. The companies that produce tablets and smartphones are hard at work delivering 4G devices.

Verizon Wireless, along with HTC, officially announced the upcoming release of the HTC Thunderbolt during their recent CES press event. The Thunderbolt comes to the Verizon 4G network as HTC’s first LTE smartphone. Verizon has said that the device should be available for purchase in the first half of 2011, with pricing still to be determined. We've waited and waited, and now Apple and Verizon have made a million dreams come true: the iPhone is coming to Big Red. After talking up his new LTE network a bit, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam confirmed a CDMA (non-LTE) version of the iPhone 4 is coming to Verizon Wireless next month.

"Verizon Wireless customers have told us they can't wait to get their hands on iPhone 4, and we think they are going to love it," Cook said. "We have enormous respect for the company Verizon has built and the loyalty they have earned from their customers."

The CDMA iPhone 4 features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, a 3-axis gyro and a glass and stainless steel design like no other mobile phone. iPhone 4 also comes with iOS 4, the world's most advanced mobile operating system, which includes multitasking, folders, Game Center, AirPlay and AirPrint wireless printing.

We've read reams of speculation about the Verizon iPhone, and McAdam obviously knows how to work a crowd. He set the stage by noting that, "We've made network quality the hallmark of the Verizon brand" and that Verizon has "the only infrastructure that's future-proof, and we can deliver high-def and 3-D content over the 3-G system robustly." It was an unmistakeable dig at the data and call-drop woes that the iPhone has caused AT&T and a subtle promise that the mobile broadband future that Apple helped usher in will work reliably on Verizon's network.

NEXUS S

There’s no doubt what LG is trying to emphasize with the announcement of the LG Optimus 2X smartphone. You see that 2X in the name? That’s because it boasts the impressive dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor (1GHz) to run its show. And what a show it is.
You may have seen this phone floating around the rumor mills as the LG Star, but the name has been abandoned for the Optimus 2X moniker instead. This is the first time that we’re seeing a smartphone with that impressive chip under the hood, after all.

So, what kind of power does that processor provide to this Android 2.2 smartphone? Well, not only will it output full 1080p video to your TV via its HDMI-out port, but it will also record full 1080p HD video via its 8MP primary camera. There’s also a 1.3MP camera on the front for your video calls too.

Running through the rest of the specs, you find 8GB memory, microSD expansion, and a 4-inch WVGA display. There’s only a 1500mAh battery in there, though, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of life you get when you really start to push the limits on this beast of a slim phone.

That's right, it's official. Needless to say, that LG Star we recently got our paws on is very real, though it won't go by that name at retail -- just as LG's own release materials had suggested, this monster has picked up the Optimus 2X name as it morphs from a prototype into brutally fast, overpowered reality. At the phone's heart beats a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz, the first such configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer (though we're expecting others any day now). In case you're wondering how such power might be used, well, for starters, you've got both full 1080p TV-out via HDMI and video capture through an 8 megapixel primary camera paired with a 1.3 megapixel cam up front for face-to-face calling.

A 4-inch WVGA display is along for the ride along with 8GB of on-board storage (expandable with up to 32GB of microSD) and a 1,500mAh battery -- no larger than most single-core smartphones these days, so it'll be interesting to see if the final retail units hold up through a day of typical use. Unfortunately, the Optimus 2X is launching out of the gate with Android 2.2, but LG's already committing to releasing Gingerbread updates "in due course." It hits first in LG's home market of Korea next month, followed by Europe and other Asian locales in the coming weeks; we're sure you can hardly wait, so why don't you check out some eye candy from our preview while you pass the time? Follow the break for the press release.
