Windows 8 Developer Preview



Windows 8 is a system poised halfway between yesterday and tomorrow desktop touch-screen interface. OS seems more to build for tablets and mobile devices than traditional computers.

Stephen Sinofsky, president of Microsoft's Windows unit, told developers Tuesday that they would have only one version of their apps write to the entire Windows 8 user base access, regardless of whether users are running PC or tablet version of Windows 8

Sinofsky said that all applications will run on Windows 7, Windows 8 pcs. More and more consumers are now using Windows 7 than Windows XP. Microsoft has a lot of apps for the new interface: games, a number of social networking apps for Twitter and Facebook, a location-based application called NearMe and much more. The apps themselves to work more like a tablet or phone-based applications than PC-based applications because they run in full screen and without the usual Windows menu.

Windows 8 borrows Metro interface of Windows Phone 7 Metro has called Live interactive blocks tiles that contain live data feeds from e-mail, social networking, instant messaging and other services.

Microsoft has yet to announce a formal release date for Windows 8.
